Tercer viaje (1498-1500):<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

February 6, 1498: Two caravels, under the command of Pedro Fern\u00e1ndez Coronel, departed from Sanl\u00facar de Barrameda with provisions and at least 55 soldiers for Hispaniola. Columbus himself set sail from the same port of Sanl\u00facar on May 30, 1498, with eight other ships. This fleet had a crew of 226 people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

31 de julio de 1498: Col\u00f3n llega a la isla de Trinidad y explora la costa de Venezuela, convirti\u00e9ndose en el primer europeo que pone los ojos en la Am\u00e9rica del Sur continental.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From the island of Margarita, he sailed north to the island of Hispaniola and landed at Santo Domingo. There, a group of Spaniards, led by the mayor, Francisco Rold\u00e1n, had rebelled against the authority of Bartholomew Columbus and had retreated inland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Una vez en Santo Domingo, Crist\u00f3bal Col\u00f3n intent\u00f3 negociar con los rebeldes y en agosto de 1499 todos los que se hab\u00edan sublevado fueron indultados y se les permiti\u00f3 regresar a Espa\u00f1a cuando quisieran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Col\u00f3n fue detenido por Francisco de Bobadilla, enviado de los Reyes Cat\u00f3licos, y devuelto a Espa\u00f1a encadenado.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En noviembre de 1500, Col\u00f3n llega a Espa\u00f1a y es liberado, pero se le revocan sus t\u00edtulos y poderes.
